Commuity?

It seems that almost every site on the web is attempting to be the next MySpace. Everyone has community features. These features all seem to revolve around the same things. I am not really into MySpace, mostly because I don't really care to connect with people (seems strange that I am blogging then.... will ponder that later) but I do check it out to get the latest news on favorite bands and stuff like that.

As many of these community sites are attempting to fill a need by aligning themselves with specific interest groups (recipes and fitness/nutrition are several big ones) I went out searching to find one that work for me.

I love to read and I stumbled on Shelfari which aside from having a cool name, seemed to appeal to the reader in me. It was easy to setup my 'book self' and there appear to be discussion groups, however most of these just fall into a simple message board system that doesn't really give you any good information about books. You are better off just going to Amazon and reading their user reviews.

This got me wondering, is it just that there aren't enough people who are Selfari-ians or is it just that there are better ways to get the same information in a quicker time frame (checking out Amazon in this case)? Or is it just that I don't really want to connect?

Not sure.
