Book review: The invention of Hugo Cabret

This is a big book - over 500 pages in all. So while it had been on the best sellers lists for awhile I have to admit that I was a little intimidated. The invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick just looked too daunting. And this is being said by someone who buzzed through the Potter books like they were nothing. But I happened to be in a Barnes and Noble book store and actually picked up the book to look at it and noticed that there were quite a few pictures in it and figured that I could give this book a try.
This is the type of book that has to be read with it actually in your hands. You can't do an audio version of it to really understand it. The illustrations and pictures are so amazing and as the story of secrets and twists and turns is revealed they only draw you in more and more to the story of Hugo Cabret.
The best part of this entire story though is the ending. After being drawn into this story where there is so many secrets and so many revealings of people's past the last chapter gives a powerful delivery that wraps it all together.
While it is a big book, it didn't take me more then a couple hours to read it. But the story is one that stays with you for a long time afterward.
