Things change - must be quick not sticky

It is interesting how things change over time. When I first started working with websites the mantra was that your site had to be 'sticky' you wanted to hold the user's attention as long as you could in order to try and 'sell' them more information, stuff, or display more ads. This is why so many sites break articles up into multiple pages and other tricks to force the user to see more ads.

However technology has changed how we interact with digital information. Individuals are more likely to be accessing information via mobile devices and have no patience for slowness or delay tactics. We want information fast and we want it now.

This means that the way that success is measured must also change. No longer is success to hold captive an individual, but you must have something worthwhile for that individual to return over and over.

Ultimately, it comes down to having something of interest that people want to find out more about it or want to continue to engage with it.
